shanghai lodging: where to stay?
first things first: moller villa
moller villa is reserved exclusively for the wedding party from friday march 26 through sunday march 28.
the villa building where our wedding will take place is privately reserved and is not available for individual guest bookings on any platform at any time. this also means the wedding party is unable to extend their stay privately.
the adjacent moller hotel remains open for regular bookings, both during the wedding weekend and before or after. it is a four-star hotel and, location-wise, is convenient for travel and for the wedding. that said, it would not be our personal recommendation for accommodations.
while we love the historic villa building where the wedding will take place, the hotel building is more dated and aren’t quite up to the standard we would personally choose for a stay in shanghai. if convenience is your priority, however, it is a budget friendly option with decent amenities!
lodging recommendation: jing’an 静安
our pick: jing’an
best for: wedding guests, convenience, restaurants, shopping
if you are unsure where to stay, jing’an is a safe pick. it is where the wedding is, it’s central, and one of the easiest bases for exploring shanghai. you will have restaurants, cafes, shopping and nightlife around you, while xuhui, huangpu, and the bund are all closeby.
shanghai traffic can be unpredictable, so staying closer to everything means one less thing to think about!

lodging recommendation: huangpu 黄浦
huangpu x the bund
best for: sightseeing, first-time visitors, the bund, luxury hotels | trade-off: more expensive, heavier traffic, tourist central
if being at the bund is your priority, huangpu is the place for you. xintiandi, yu garden, and many of shanghai’s best-known tourist attractions are here, and you are still very central to the rest of puxi.
the trade-off is price and traffic. this is one of the city’s main tourist areas, and hotels around the bund in particular can get expensive. getting to and from the wedding by car may also take longer during busy periods.
if you are coming to shanghai for the first time and want the full “wake up overlooking the bund” experience, there are some amazing options.
